Jack Strain - Third Cornet

Jack Strain I commenced brass banding in the 1950's when as a recruit in the 1st (Irish) Belfast Boys Brigade I joined the company silver band. A few years later I joined the 1st Old Boys Association Band and remained a member of both bands until the early 1960's. As a result of work commitments I had to give up playing. I eventually returned to the scene in 1987 when I joined the Carrick/Whitehouse Band, later to become C.W.A. Brass, where I held the position of secretary for a number of years.

In 2003 I transferred to Third Carrickfergus Silver Band. I have played in three European Brass Band contests which took place in Belgium and Holland. For about the past ten years have played with the Friendship Band (NI) and for about the same time have been on the executive committee of the Brass Band League (NI)
